Getting started with the course.

I’ve started the course and already completed the first onboarding section. I discovered some new things while building the site, which I’ll break down in this post:

1. Course Videos.

I really liked the course videos. I was perhaps a bit confused when the topics of themes and patterns were discussed, as they are closely related in certain respects, but after doing some research, I managed to figure out the differences and functions of each.

Themes

Themes define the overall appearance of a WordPress website, including its colors, fonts, layouts, and styles.

Patterns

Patterns are predefined groups of blocks that can be inserted and reused to create specific sections of a website, such as galleries, contact sections, or text layouts.

Similarities

Both help create visually consistent websites, save time during development, and make designing pages easier without requiring advanced coding skills.

2. Creation of the Website.

Regarding the selection of themes for the website, I noticed that some themes do not use a conventional header and footer layout, but instead place them in different locations. I discovered this because one the themes I selected has these characteristics, which has made me more curious about how to visually organize and arrange the page.

I do not view this “issue” as a problem per se, but rather as an opportunity to investigate and learn more about the theme’s settings.

3. My first impression of WordPress.

Since I have only watched the onboarding videos so far, I haven’t yet started editing the site to include everything it needs—such as “About” and “Contact” pages where I can share more about myself—or improving the base design to make it more dynamic and engaging.

I have been thinking a lot about how to improve the site, but I am confident that if I run into any issues, I can look for help in relevant forums.

The importance of the course.

Also, through the videos, I came to understand how WordPress works and all its advantages, clearly seeing why this course is so important; the course explains that this platform is one of the most widely used in the world—powering over 40% of websites—and it is easy to see why. That is what keeps me moving forward and fuels my curiosity about this path.

I also plan to improve the quality of my posts in the future to make them more dynamic, but I wanted to share my progress so far.
